What Is OEM Sportswear Manufacturing? Guide for Brands

Updated 14 October 2026 · By Salman Munawar, Founder, Ravix Pro Industry

Quick answer: OEM sportswear manufacturing means a factory produces garments to your own design and tech pack, which you then sell under your brand.

OEM (original equipment manufacturing) means a factory produces your own original design to your specifications, under your brand. For sportswear brands that want a unique fit, signature fabrics and details customers cannot find elsewhere, OEM is the next step after private label. This article explains how OEM sportswear manufacturing works in Pakistan and what to prepare before you start.

Quick answer

OEM sportswear manufacturing means the factory produces your own original design from your tech pack, under your brand. It involves fabric development, pattern making, one to three sample rounds, grading and a pre-production sample before bulk.

OEM vs private label: the key difference

With private label, you customise a factory’s proven base styles with your colours, logos and labels. With OEM, the factory builds the product from your tech pack: your patterns, your measurements, your fabric and trim choices. OEM takes longer to develop but gives you full control and a product that is truly yours. See private label vs white label vs OEM for a side-by-side comparison.

When should a brand choose OEM?

  • You have a best-selling style and want to improve its fit or fabric.
  • You need technical features: bonded seams, laser-cut vents, reflective trims, specific pocket layouts.
  • You are building a signature product that defines your brand.
  • You want to own the patterns and specifications for consistent reorders.

The OEM development process step by step

1. Tech pack review

The factory’s technical team reviews your tech pack: flat sketches, measurement chart, bill of materials, artwork placement, colours and construction notes. They flag anything unclear or difficult to produce and suggest practical alternatives. New to tech packs? Read how to make a tech pack for clothing.

2. Fabric and trim development

The factory sources fabrics that match your composition, weight (GSM), stretch and handfeel, and sends swatches or lab dips for colour approval. Trims such as zips, drawcords, elastic, labels and reflective tapes are matched at this stage too.

3. Pattern making

Pattern makers turn your measurements into a base-size pattern. If you send a reference garment, they can take measurements from it and adjust to your notes.

4. Proto sample

The first sample shows the shape, fit and construction. Expect comments and changes: most OEM products go through one to three sample rounds.

5. Fit sample and grading

After the fit is approved, the pattern is graded into all sizes using your grading rules. A size set may be made to check fit across sizes.

6. Pre-production sample (PP sample)

The PP sample uses the actual bulk fabric, trims, decoration and labels. Once you approve it in writing, it becomes the reference for bulk production and quality checks.

7. Bulk production and quality control

Fabric is inspected, cut, decorated, stitched, trimmed and pressed. Inline checks catch problems early, and a final inspection checks measurements, workmanship, print and colour against the PP sample.

8. Packing and shipping

Goods are packed to your instructions: hang tags, barcodes, polybags, carton marks and assortment by size. Shipping is by air courier or sea freight.

Protecting your designs

Your designs are your business. Before sharing tech packs, it is normal to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). Agree in writing that your patterns, artwork and samples will not be sold or shown to other customers, and that your labels and branding will only be used on your orders. A trustworthy OEM partner will be happy to agree.

Why Pakistan for OEM sportswear?

  • Specialist cluster: Sialkot has generations of experience in sports goods, team uniforms, gloves and fight gear.
  • In-house decoration: sublimation, screen printing, embroidery and heat transfer under one roof shortens development.
  • Flexible MOQs: many factories accept smaller OEM runs than large mass-market suppliers.
  • Trade access: EU GSP+ and UK DCTS preferences can reduce import duty when origin rules are met. Confirm current rules with your broker.

From our factory floor in Sialkot

At Ravix Pro Industry we have manufactured sportswear since 2008. Every order follows the same 11 steps: quote, design, approval, sample, cutting, decoration, stitching, thread trimming, quality check, packing and door-to-door shipping. Sublimation, screen printing, embroidery and stitching happen in-house, so we control colour, print quality and timing ourselves. The most common problem we see with first-time buyers is skipping the sample; a physical sample costs a little extra but prevents expensive surprises in bulk.
