US Clothing Manufacturer vs Pakistan Factory: Cost, MOQ and Lead Time Compared

Updated 29 October 2026 · By Salman Munawar, Founder, Ravix Pro Industry

Quick answer: A US clothing manufacturer gives you speed and “Made in USA” labelling at a high unit cost; a Pakistani factory usually costs far less per piece, accepts low MOQs and is stronger in sportswear, but needs 3–6 weeks plus shipping and US import duty.

American brands often start with a local cut-and-sew shop in Los Angeles, New York or the South, then look overseas once unit costs start to hurt margins. This guide compares a US-based clothing manufacturer with a Pakistani factory on cost, MOQ, lead time, duty and risk, so you can decide which suits each product.

Quick answer

Use a US manufacturer for very fast restocks, small premium drops and products sold on a “Made in USA” promise. Use a Pakistani factory for sublimated teamwear, tracksuits, hoodies, fleece, gym wear and fightwear when you want a lower landed cost and can plan 6–10 weeks from order to door. Add US duty and any temporary tariffs to the overseas price before comparing.

Cost: where the gap comes from

US cut-and-sew shops pay American wages and rent, and they often buy fabric from distributors at retail-like prices. A Pakistani factory pays lower wages, uses local cotton and does printing and embroidery under one roof, so the factory price for a hoodie, tracksuit or sublimated jersey is usually a fraction of the US quote. To compare fairly, add freight, US import duty, customs broker fees and any temporary tariffs to the overseas price. Even then, many brands find the landed cost from Pakistan clearly lower. See how much it costs to manufacture clothing and our import duty guide.

MOQ and full-package production

Small US shops can be flexible on quantity, but many only cut and sew: you source the fabric, trims, labels and printing yourself. Pakistani sportswear factories usually offer full-package production, from fabric and pattern to decoration, labels, polybags and cartons. Ravix Pro starts at 30 pieces per design with mixed sizes. Speed, communication and risk

A local manufacturer is easier to visit and can turn a restock in a couple of weeks with no customs step. Working with Pakistan means time-zone gaps and shipping time. Good factories close that gap with clear tech packs, photo and video updates at each stage and WhatsApp or email replies within 24 hours. Order a physical sample, agree an AQL inspection standard and pay through traceable methods. See questions to ask a sportswear manufacturer and how to make a tech pack.

US import duty and tariffs

Clothing from Pakistan pays the normal US duty rate for its HS code, which varies by fibre and garment type, and in 2026 also faced a temporary additional tariff. Rates have changed several times since 2025, so check the current rate on the US International Trade Commission’s HTS search or with your broker before ordering. See HS codes for sportswear and clothing.

When to choose each

  • Choose a US manufacturer for weekly restocks, local events, very short-notice drops and products sold as “Made in USA”.
  • Choose a Pakistani factory for team uniforms, sublimated kits, tracksuits, hoodies, gym wear and fightwear where margin matters, and when you can plan 6–10 weeks ahead.
  • Use both: core volume from Pakistan, urgent top-ups from a local shop.

FAQs

Is it cheaper to make clothes in Pakistan or the USA?

Pakistan is usually much cheaper per piece, even after freight and US duty, because labour, fabric and decoration cost less and are done in one factory.

How long does shipping from Pakistan to the USA take?

Air freight takes about 3–7 days door to door; sea freight about 4–6 weeks depending on the port.

Do I pay duty on clothing from Pakistan into the USA?

Yes. Clothing pays the normal US duty rate for its HS code plus any temporary tariffs in force. Check the current rate before ordering.

What MOQ do Pakistani factories accept?

Many sportswear factories accept 30–100 pieces per design. Ravix Pro starts at 30 pieces with mixed sizes.

Can a Pakistani factory handle labels and packaging?

Yes. Full-package factories add woven labels, hang tags, polybags and barcodes so the goods arrive retail-ready.
